362 - HT-172A / Low 116A R8 NGC AU58 BN Seemingly with original color toward the outside of some letters and design elements. Maverick Coach 1837, East Boston Massachusetts struck in Copper. Rulau lists this token as an Electrotype, as does the more recent Bowers book. The Electrotype designation does not appear on NGC's holder and the holder itself makes it difficult to tell for sure. The portions of the edge visible shows no obvious signs of a seam or tampering. Additionally the luster remnants on the rim side of some letters and design elements point toward a struck piece. While the flow lines can be copied in an Electrotype, the color variation seen on this piece should not transfer. From the Lumberton, John Ford, Don Miller and George Hetrich collections. Earlier from Stack's June 2004 sale, then Raw Choice AU, where it realized $3,220. (3000-4000)
