74 - MI225CJ-4a/b R9 PCGS MS64 BN 30% Bright more so on the reverse. Venn & Werford Butchers, Detroit Michigan 1863. This has every appearance of being full Brass and unlisted as such. The obverse is less obvious and has a coppery planchet streak and slightly different toning than the reverse which is bright Brass in color. Since full Brass is not currently listed we used the a/b, Copper/Brass, listed for this variety in the current book. Either way this is a significant item as tokens struck with the 1039 reverse die are almost never found in anything but Copper. The first we have seen offered. From the Dave Bowers collection, earlier said to be from us though we have no record of the transaction. Perhaps a labeling error as this is called MI225CJ-3a by PCGS while it is not dated 1864 nor in our opinion is it Copper. Reverse Die: 1039. (300-400)
