Description
462 - PARISIAN / VARIETIES / 16. St & B'WAY. N. Y. on the obverse of an 1874 Arrows Seated Half Dollar NGC F15 Coin VG, counterstamp VF. According to Rulau Parisian Varieties was an erotic show of nubile young ladies in 1875 and 1876. This counterstamp is known on a number of different Half Dollars making for a challenging collection by date and mint mark. A raw EF example on the more available 1875 Half in EF with light reverse scratches brought $222 in our February 2014 sale. Called a 1874-CC in error on NGC holder. Miller 627 Rulau NY NY 230 From the John J. Ford collection Stack's Bowers August 2013. (200-300)
