1038 - Northampton Massachusetts 1776 Shell Card Raw EF Details Dark with many dents. Great Union Pacific Tea Company 15. Popular shell card with the "1776" dated Liberty Head design. This card came in at least two denomination, 23 listed in Bowers which appears to be the most available and this 15. Both likely represent ounces or pounds of Tea or Coffee. Some of the firms struck Centennial tokens list a denomination 1 lb. Coffee while other just have numbers like the Shell Cards namely 13, 15, 18 and 20. Bowers MA-600a. From the Dave Bowers and Steve Tanenbaum collection earlier from StacksBowers March 2013 sale where it brought $199.75 and still earlier from H. Bardes January 1976. (150-200)
