Description

81 - 498/499 Iron R8 NGC MS62 Trace Bright mainly on the reverse with some luster, again mainly on the reverse. Rusted, as are most, mainly around the periphery but much more so and darker than the photo would indicate. The First Ironclad 1862 Made From the Armor Plate Of The Merrimac. The Iron from the Merrimac was not recovered until well after the Civil War and consequently it has been delisted as a contemporary Civil War token, however it is still collected along with the series as an important war relic. We sold an NGC MS61 for $1,765 in our December 2022 auction. From the Lumberton collection. (1500-2000)
