6 - 9/400 a R8 NGC MS62 BN The Union Must And Shall Be Preserved 1863. Very rare die combination in exceptional condition, one of the finest known. Made by die sinker Henry Higgins of Mishawaka Indiana. His products are often referred to as Indiana Primitive because of their crude nature. On this piece he used a Scovill Civil War Token to create his die number 9, the result was somewhat weak detail. To this he added his own reverse die with many of his interesting and folksy dingbats. We sold another NGC MS62 BN "Or a bit better" in our December 2022 auction that brought $1,900. From the Wayne Stafford collection, earlier from Heritage June 2003. (1000-1500)
