69 - 509A/509C b Unlisted NGC AU58 10% Bright. Unique John Bell doubleheader. There are currently three listed John Bell dies in the Patriotic series and until this token surfaced none of those dies were known in combination with each other. The 509A die is fairly obvious as it is the only one with the right corner of the bust pointing at the O in Of. The other side is where the confusion begins. There is a period after Tennessee, eliminating 509 as a possibility. The left corner of the bust points at the front edge of J in John similar to 509 and not the back edge of the J in John like 509B. But perhaps most obvious of all is the bust actually hovers above the inner circle rather than joining it as on all three other varieties. We have called this new die 509C. A significant discovery and currently a Unique die in the Civil War token series. In an NGC holder labeled 509/509A. From the Dave Bowers collection. (3000-4000)
