Description
23 - IL692A-20n Unlisted PCGS VF25 Yankee Robinson The Great Comedian 1869 with incused reverse struck in Iron and Unlisted in this composition. Robinson operated a traveling Circus and had traditionally been listed under Cincinnati Ohio but now moved to Peoria Illinois where his base of operations was located at the time these Civil War tokens were issued. These very thin shells, normally Tin or White Metal (-2m and -20e) are sometimes called Brockage mint errors but they were likely made as intended. Fuld numbers -2n and -23n would appear to describe the same token and while both are called Unique neither may exist and are simply misdescriptions of this piece which is the only example of this style that is clearly not Tin or White Metal. To our knowledge there is only one other Iron Civil War Store Card NY630AM-1n, though there are a few Iron Sutler tokens. From the Dave Bowers collection, earlier from Rossa and Tanenbaum. Called IL692A-1n which it is not. (400-500)
