Description
83 - 244/0 a R9 Raw AU Remembrance of 1863 struck in Copper with a blank reverse. This is the prototypical blank reverse type created when two planchets are struck at the same time resulting in two different blanks each with a wavy raw planchet roughness on the blank portion. We have always thought it would be interesting to be able to match up two blanks that were struck at the same time, they should fit together like hand and glove. In this case a blank 381 die is also listed making the logical intended combination 244/381. We suspect fate has eliminated the possible reunion of most blank reverse, however, with this piece hope still lives. From the Dave Bowers collection earlier from Walt Korzick. (1000-1500)
