186 - PA-72-10B R8 NGC AU58 10% Bright. A. W. H. Baxter's Fire Zouaves Sutler's 10 Ticket. The 72nd Volunteers were popularly known as Baxter's Fire Zouaves because its soldiers were drawn from Philadelphia Fire Companies. They were organized and led by DeWitt Clinton Baxter and wore the unusual Zouave style uniforms with short jackets, baggy trousers and ornamental headgear. Seemingly nicer that the other NGC AU58 that realized $900 in our July 2014 auction. Formerly NL H-10B. From the John J. Ford collection Stack's Bowers August 2013. The Ford pedigree is noted on the NGC holder. (1000-1500)
