876 - MILLER PA 369 ½ Raw MS60 80% Red with full Proof Like surfaces, unfortunately there are a number of light hairlines present most easily seen on the obverse. William J. Mullen Prison Agent 1862, Philadelphia Pennsylvania 36mm struck in Copper with a Plain edge. Mullen's portrait is a near match to the 1847 New York store card with some hair curls added behind his neck and a tunic added around the shoulders. After making his fortune with watch dials in New York he relocated to Philadelphia in time to found Female Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1850 which eventually became Drexel University College of Medicine. An advocate for judicial and prison reforms, in 1854 he became an official Prison Agent for Pennsylvania issuing annual reports for many years. Unlisted by Adams, Miller NY 616A and Rulau NY 616A (second listing as William P. Mullen). Very rare and not pictured in Rulau. From the Dave Bowers and David Litrenta collections. (400-500)
