702 - MILLER NY 820H Raw MS63 50% Bright and nearly Proof Like. Young America of the 19th Century, The Brave, Fearless & Generous Hearted Fireman 30mm Brass with plain edge. Detailed die work signed S & H for Smith & Hartmann on both sides. Though thought to date from the 1860's when the firm seems most active, the Young America die was latter used in the 1890's for an Aluminum striking of the E. Jacobs & Son New York store card. The Young America die is also known muled with a 1860's McClellan Civil War dog tag. A beautiful and intriguing token with many secrets yet to be discovered. A bit nicer than the MS63 that realized $820 in our December 2016 sale. From the Dave Bowers and David Litrenta collections. (750-1000)
