Description
423 - MILLER NY 820G Raw MS63 40% Bright. Young America of the 19th Century, The Brave, Fearless & Generous Hearted Fireman 30mm Brass with plain edge. Detailed die work signed S & H for Smith & Hartmann on both sides. Though thought to date from the 1860's when the firm seems most active the Young America die was latter used in the 1890's for an Aluminum striking of the E. Jacobs & Son New York store card. The Young American die is also known muled with a 1860's McClellan Civil War dog tag. A beautiful and intriguing token with many secrets yet to be discovered. Much nicer than the NGC MS61 White Metal example that brought $535 in our January 2016 sale, while a nice Brass example brought $1,026 in a October 4th 2015 eBay auction. (1000-1500)
