287 - USE / (L.) MILLERS / HAIR / (2)95 BOWERY / (INV)IGORATO(R) / N.Y. on a smooth One Real Raw FINE Details Coin Smooth with light X scratched onto each side, likely a Spanish One Real. Louis Miller was a barber who was located at 295 Bowery as early as 1848-49. He issued counterstamps for his bottled hair invigorator. Later during the Civil War he issued tokens for his Hair Invigorator 25 Cents as well as a Hair Dye 50 Cents. This example is stamped in a different order than usually seen with the address listed before Invigorator. From the John J. Ford collection Stack's Bowers August 2013. (400-500)
