638 - Merriam Thomas Sayers Medal Raw MS63 30% Bright and nearly Proof Like. Thomas Sayers Champion of England 1859 Heenan & Sayers Fought April 17, 1860 Heenan Victorious struck in White Metal 31mm. Reverse signed M by maker. Sayers was a very popular boxer from an era when it was still illegal and before the use of gloves. He had a famous 37 round fight with John Heenan (also a Merriam subject) in 1860. Later they toured together reenacting their match. From the Dave Bowers reference set. (75-100)
