499 - MILLER MA 69 Raw MS63 10% Red. Jos. H. Merriam Die Sinker Boston Massachusetts with John C. Heenan Champion of America 1859 reverse struck in Copper 31mm. Heenan was a very popular boxer from an era when it was still illegal and before the use of gloves. He had a famous 37 round fight with Thomas Sayer (also a Merriam subject see proceeding lot) in 1860. Later they toured together reenacting their match.
