Description
365 - LU F-1g R9 Raw EF Details Small planchet clip and smaller obverse rim notch. W. P. E. within wreath with eagle reverse die 1182A struck in Lead. Known and considered a Civil War token for quite some time. Formerly called Patriotic 284A/463 it is now thought to be a Store Card. The issuer has yet to be discovered making for an excellent research opportunity. Philadelphia is likely a good starting point due to the similarity of this piece's reverse to the 1182 reverse of Philadelphia die sinker Robert Lovett Jr.. From the Steve Tanenbaum collection earlier from Doc Carberry in 1889. (300-400)
