82 - 498/499 Iron R8 Raw EF Details Slightly porous as usually seen with some weak letters and rust stains. The First Ironclad 1862 Made From the Armor Plate Of The Merrimac. The Iron from the Merrimac was not recovered until well after the Civil War and consequently it has been delisted, however it is still collected along with the series as an important war relic. An EF not holed but quite weakly struck, porous and stained realized $878 in our February 2014 sale. (1000-1500)
