Description
525 - HT-906 R7 NGC AU55 With coin and counterstamp of similar grade. The coin has very nice luster and attractive toning. W. LEVIS counterstamped in raised letters within a ribbon shaped depression on the obverse of an 1823 Capped Bust Half Dollar. Rulau attributes this piece to Philadelphia silversmith William Levis and with 1836 the latest dated coin used, now includes it in the Hard Times period. Said to be one of just four known with this undertype. An example of the much more available HT-905 on a Spanish Two Real in VF coin GOOD+ brought $525 in my February 2014 sale. From the John Ford collection earlier from Byron Hoke October 1962. (1500-2000)
