404 - SPENCER. RIFLE. CO. / AMBROSE / BOSWORTH / BOSTON neatly stamped in individual punches on the obverse of an 1846 Large Cent. EF Coin VF. Rulau states they made Spencer breech-loading rifles and carbines for the US Army and Navy from 1862 to 1869 though online research shows patent date of 1860 and that the business was sold in December of 1868 to the Fogarty Repeating Rifle Company. An Ambrose Bosworth is listed as a Machinist in the 1861 Boston City Directory and was likely employed by the Spencer Rifle Company.
