401 - RICHMOND in raised letters in a rectangular depression on the obverse of an 1803 Large Cent. VF Coin AG. Per Ensko this is the Silversmith mark of Franklin Richmond of Providence Rhode Island who is believed to be active beginning in 1815. This would appear to be an early mark as his later ones added the F. and became more elaborate. From the Dave Bowers reference collection earlier from John Ford and F. C. C. Boyd 1984. (150-200)
