627 - LOW 249 / HT-269 R7 AU58 Struck on a slightly rough planchet. W. Field Manufacturer of Hats, Caps and Fancy Furs, New York. Very rare merchant. Another exceeding rare merchant of which Ford had three examples (this being the finest certified) which makes one wonder if that was a stopping point on rare merchants, we think not. Superior to the AU with minor problems that brought $7,500 in our December 2012 auction. From the John Ford collection. In a NGC holder graded AU58 BN. (6000-8000) See pictures.
