334 - NJ555B-1do R6 MS63 20% Bright struck over an 1859 Indian Head Cent. Charles Kolb Restaurant, Newark New Jersey. Rarer type over cent as the 1859 Cent is a one year design type and although the date is weak but is readable at just the right angle and the wreath without shield is plainly visible on the reverse. Listed in Fuld as the most common Over Cent, but this is only the fifth example we have seen offered publicly. Likely is at least an R7 and the only listed New Jersey Over Cent. Another MS63 struck over the more available 1862 Cent brought $555.50 in our December 2006 sale. From a Christensen & Stone sale Lot 783 but date unrecorded, likely from the late 1960's to early 1970's. (1000-1500) See pictures.
