124 - 512/Transit AG Very well work and / or weakly struck with some light scratches. Civil War token die 512 weakly double struck over a more modern Nickel transportation token. Most of the legend (The) Union Must And Shall Be Pr(eserved) can be read along with and outlined shield and even the die crack through the O of Union. On the transit side we can read Cincinnati Gen(???) // Rapid(???). This token or a similar one being written up in the 1972 Winter issue of the Civil War Token Society Journal as a possible new Civil War token. We also remember it being debunked a few years later though we could not find the specific issue. Regardless, a very interesting item struck from a Civil War token die that must have survived for long after the war, what a wonderful find it would be if the actual die were discovered. (100-150)
