Description
970 - Silver Lincoln Die Trial MS64 Nearly Proof Like and very attractively toned. Bearded bust of Lincoln to the right with long hair with ribboned pony tail in the style of George Washington. The design is 23mm and is well centered on a Uniface Silver planchet measuring 33mm and weighing 15 grams. Center portrait is used for King 270. The finished die King 276 is marked as cancelled Treasury Dept. 1869 meaning this piece should date to 1869 at the latest. We have seen similar examples in Copper but this is the first Silver example we can recall. From the Jon Harris and George Fuld collections. (400-500)
