654 - MILLER MA 68B MS60 Details, 20% Bright with Tin Pest. Jos. H. Merriam Die Sinker Medals Struck In Gold, Silver, Copper Or Tin, Boston Massachusetts with Thomas Sayers Champion Of England 1859 reverse struck in White Metal and Unlisted in both Miller and Rulau. Sayers was a very popular boxer from an era when it was still illegal and before the use of gloves. He had a famous 37 round fight with John Heenan (also a Merriam subject see following lot) in 1860. Later they toured together reenacting their match. From the Richard Crosby collection. (75-100)
