596 - LOW 249 / HT-269 R7 AU Sharp strike but with a number of small marks mainly near the rims and a few hairline scratches. Reverse double struck, note second beaver tail below water line. W. Field Manufacturer of Hats, Caps and Fancy Furs, New York. Very rare merchant, just the third offered in the last twenty years. An EF with minor laminations brought $6,930 in PCAC's March 1999 sale and another EF with a difficult to detect planchet crack brought $5,750 in PCAC's December 2004 sale. This is higher grade and sharper in most respects than either of those examples but with some after striking problems.
