MILLER MA 68 MS62 Jos. H. Merriam Die Sinker Medals Struck In Gold, Silver, Copper Or Tin, Boston Massachusetts with Thomas Sayers Champion Of England 1859 reverse struck in Copper. Sayers was a very popular boxer from an era when it was still illegal and before the use of gloves. He had a famous 37 round fight with John Heenan (also a Merriam subject see following lot) in 1860. Later they toured together reenacting their match. An AU+ with reverse stain brought $93 in my October 2011 sale. From the Richard Crosby collection. Rulau MA Bo 77 (150-200)
