Description
314 - TN690E-9d R10 Raw UNC Details 20% Bright, planchet flaws or file marks across obverse from 2 to 8 o'clock. Walker & Napier, Nashville Tennessee Arctic Soda Water Good For 1 Glass struck in Copper Nickel with Reeded edge. The partnership was that of Nelson Walker and Elias Napier and they were barbers at the northeast corner of Cedar and Summer. One of only a handful of Civil War tokens known to have been issued by African-Americans. Very rare merchant and town. Many Copper Nickel tokens exhibit file marks resulting from regular issue US Cents being filed down for use as planchets. We sold a Raw AU+ example of the R9 -5a variety for $3,250 in our December 2005 sale. From the Dave Bowers, Steve Tanenbaum and Colonel E. H. R. Green collections. (3000-4000)
