227 - OH165FXa- 2a R9 PCGS MS64 Trace Red. Steamboat Steamer Lancaster No. 4 with Abraham Lincoln on reverse. Now listed under Cincinnati, the location of David Gibson & Co. its owner and its original base of operations. This ship had a short but interesting life, launched in January 1861 for the Cincinnati - New Richmond trade. It was later used in April 1862 to ferry wounded soldiers from the battle of Pittsburg Tennessee. Beginning in June 1864 it ran troops and supplies from New Orleans to Vicksburg and in August came under attack near Natchez Mississippi. It snagged and sunk in just ten feet of water south of Portland Missouri on November 18, 1864. From the Dave Bowers collection, in one of Dave's special holders with picture and facsimile signature.
