Description
2 - 9/400 a R8 NGC MS62 BN Or a bit better with attractive toning, nice luster and a tiny planchet clip mint error. The Union Must And Shall Be Preserved 1863. Very rare die combination in exceptional condition, one of the finest known. Made by die sinker Henry Higgins of Mishawaka Indiana. His products are often referred to as Indiana Primitive because of their crude nature. On this piece he used a Scovill Civil War Token to create his die number 9, the result was somewhat weak detail. To this he added his own reverse die with many of his interesting and folksy dingbats. From the Wayne Stafford, Steve Tanenbaum and William Evans collections. From our October 2016 eBay sale where it realized $1,551. (1500-2000)
