398 - LOW 181 / HT-399 R6 NGC MS61 Charles W. Bender Philadelphia 1842 struck in German Silver with the 42 of the date upside down and backwards. Bender was the proprietor of the Star Hotel at 71 Dock Street. Very rare merchant. A Raw EF+ example brought $2,100 in our January 2015 sale . From the Don Partrick, Don Miller and William Dunham collections, earlier from Dave Bowers via John Ford on June 29th 1983 for $2,275. (1500-2000)
