Description

396 - LOW 284A / HT-369 R7 PCGS F15 Poorly struck as always, still this seems to be one of the least worn and most detailed examples known. Rare US / Canadian mule with Starbuck Troy New York reverse. This variety, Wood 25, of the Canadian Blacksmith series is a mule of bust right with the reverse of the Starbuck tokens Low 156 and Low 284. This token was made by Daniel and Benjamin True of Troy NY and exported to Canada as intentionally lightweight tokens. An extremely rare variety missing from most major Hard Times Token sales. The Ford Raw Fine brought $2,820 in StacksBowers August 2013 sale. From the Dave Bowers and Steve Tanenbaum collections. The Plate token in Dave Bowers book on the subject. (2000-3000)

A: That is correct, also known as Wood 25. Thanks, Steve.
Q: Similar to a Canadian blacksmith token. posted by: jstar 2/7/2021 2:24 PM
A: Yes, it is collected with that series as well. On theory is they were made specifically for export to Canada for circulation in that country. Steve
