282 - 131/131 b Restrike Unlisted PCGS MS66 80% Bright. 1864 Abraham Lincoln uniface restrike. Though seemingly called a contemporary Brockage by PCGS, we are quite certain this was made between 10 and 20 years ago as a token of appreciation by a one time owner of the 131 die. We sold the die for 131 in our October 2011 sale for $5,000. Sometime before that sale the prior owner of the die made a handful of oddities, primarily as gifts to friends. One such piece was an overstrike on a John Schuh's Saloon New York Civil War Store Card we sold on eBay for $255 in June 2020. In that instance, like the present token, we believe the reverse distortion is caused by metal flowing into the high relief design creating a ghost like mirror image and not as the result of the impression from another struck token as in a true brockage mint error.
