Description
766 - Lincoln 25 Mystery Raw MS62 20% Bright. Abraham Lincoln 25 In God We Trust (around bearded bust right) // United States Of America For Ever Inseparable 1864 (around eagle). A somewhat mysterious token. It would appear to be a political campaign item from 1864 but was not listed in DeWitt or Sullivan while almost certainly known to them. It has 25 under Lincoln's bust that could be a denomination, the size is right for a Quarter and it is struck in Coin Turn rotation rather than Metal Turn. Consequently, some have suggested it is a proposed coin pattern. What ever it is this is one of the nicest example we can recall seeing. White Metal 25mm. King 878 Cunningham 15-550W. From Craig Whitford's November 2000 sale. (400-500)
