764 - Baker 638 R8 Raw MS63 George Washington Perseverance 5 Extends a Hearty Welcome. Thought to be a US Mint Medal issued in the 1861-1867 time period for the Perseverance Hose Company Number 5 of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Julian lists the Abraham Lincoln version, CM-25, stating 100 were struck in Silver only, during 1867 to commemorate Lincoln's visit to the fire company in 1861. Musante lists this version in Copper and Nickel, dates them to circa 1865, calls both Very Rare and was even forced to use composite photos. Formerly listed as a Civil War Patriotic Token, 122/462, but delisted due to the 1867 date in Julian related to the Lincoln version. Very rare and collectible in many fields. GW-762, Julian CM-25A. From the Dave Bowers collection. (500-750)
