467 - SAGE'S / CANDY / COIN on obverse of 1874 Quarter Raw EF Coin FINE. According to Russell Rulau these were issued by Buffalo New York patent medicine seller R. V. Pierce who sold under the names Dr. Pierce and Dr. Sage. A popular stamp. Rulau NY Bf 18. From the Cliff Wainwright collection. (150-200) More recent information place the issue to Paterson New Jersey in 1875 as part of a lottery prizes distributed randomly in packages of candy.
