101 - 498/499 Iron R8 Raw VF+ Very well struck for issue. The First Ironclad 1862 Made From the Armor Plate Of The Merrimac. The Iron from the Merrimac was not recovered until well after the Civil War and consequently it has been delisted as a contemporary Civil War token, however it is still collected along with the series as an important war relic. Superior to the Raw VF example that brought $1,550 in our December 2016 sale. (2000-3000)
