Description
64 - 144/282 a R9 Raw UNC Details 20% Red with some spots. Ulysses Grant with Flying Eagle 1863 struck in Copper. Listed in the new Patriotic book as Possibly Non-Contemporary as the Grant die may date to after the Civil War. Very rare, just the first we have seen offered. The reverse die is particularly rare and depicts an eagle or some other bird with oddly turned neck the result for poor artistry or an attempt at social commentary. The most affordable example of this die was a Raw EF+ 129/282 e that brought $706 in our June 2013 sale. This may bring less do to its Possibly Non-Contemporary status. From the Robert Williams collection. (500-750)
