Description
184 - UI-G-5B R9 Raw EF Details With a number of marks on each side. R. R. 2V. Good For 5 Cents signed Koehler struck in Copper 22mm. This type of Koehler reverse is used on many Civil War Sutler tokens. It has been suggested that this was issued for 2nd Regiment Volunteers of Tennessee possibly also known as Robinson's Regiment presumably because they were mustered in at Camp Dick Robinson in Garrard County, Kentucky. We see no reason to believe this is Confederate as has been stated elsewhere. We sold an EF example in our July 2014 sale for $900. A 10 Cent example from the John Ford collection in similar condition brought $2,820 in August 2013. A 25 Cent piece also exists as well as varieties of the 10 and 25 Cent piece with Koehler signing the obverse as well. All three are quite rare. (500-750)
