156 - MI450F-3a R9 NGC MS63 BN J. Gottlieb Clothier Hillsdale Michigan with 1863 Gleason reverse struck in Copper. Very rare variety, the finest by far of just two we have seen offered and a variety not represented in the extensive Steve Tanenbaum collection. Rare merchant, particularly this nice. A raw VF+ example of the R9 -4a variety sold for $262 in our February 2014 auction. From the Wayne Stafford and Cliff Temple collections earlier from H. E. Wilson on September 24th 1940 for $0.11.
