Description
500 - LOW 175 / HT-433 R5 Raw EF Crudely struck and slightly off center on an oval planchet. Where stuck, it is quite sharp for variety with a readable date. Gustin & Blake, Chelsea Vermont. Distinguishing between Low 175 and 176 is difficult and we believe a Low 175 illustrates both varieties in Rulau. Refer to lot 318 in the Ford Hard Times sale for a well struck Low 176 and note the base of the T's in Stoves and Tin and base of E in Ware. We sold a VF+ that was better centered but unevenly struck for $1,342 in our December 2006 sale. From the Maurice Shepherd and Gilbert Steinberg collections, earlier from Bowers and Merena's November 2002 sale where it realized $575. (1500-2000)
