108 - Civil War Soldiers ID Tag Raw AU+ Essentially as issued with integral loop for suspension and McClellan badge and pin hanger. War of 1861 (Fair Oaks / 7 Days / Before Richmond / Bristow Station / Bull Run / Chantilla / Fredericksburg) Engaged in the Above Battles with Chas H. Bridges Newton. Cr. Mass. CO. K. 16th Reg. Mass. V. punched into the blank on reverse. Listed as stock tag Battles 4C in Maier and Stahl's book on Identification Discs of Union Soldiers in the Civil War and called Rare. Merriam and Boston are visible on either side of the hanger tab. White Metal 31mm. A wonderful piece worthy of very strong bids. From the John Ford collection, earlier from Stack's January 2005 sale where it realized $3,450. (4000-6000)
