403 - HT-347 / Low 87 R7 NGC VF35 BN Oliver & Phardice Boutwell Bakers & Confectioners, Troy New York 1835. Signed *T beneath Wheat Sheaf for engraver True of Albany. This issue seems to have been issued in very modest numbers; years later Oliver Boutwell was one of the most prolific issuers of Civil War tokens. One of the classic rarities of the Hard Times series. Thought to be one of just ten or so known and usually only available in lower grades, more often than not with problems. We sold a PCGS XF40 example in our January 2016 auction that brought $6,500. From the Don Partrick and Don Miller collections, earlier from John Ford via Dave Bowers June 1983 at $3,675. (4000-6000)
